ⓘ How to use EZ Budget

A guide to the main features and how projections are calculated.

1. Accounts and balances

Add each bank, savings, cash or investment account with its currency. Use Balance Now when you know the real balance. The date of that balance becomes the starting point for future projections.

2. Transactions

Add income, expenses and transfers. Choose the account and group, and add notes when useful. A transfer moves money between accounts and is not treated as spending.

3. Recurring transactions

Recurring is an attribute of a transaction, not a separate kind of money movement. Expenses, income and transfers can repeat weekly, monthly, quarterly, 6-monthly or annually. Confirming one occurrence does not delete the future rule.

4. Upcoming cash flow

The Home tab shows upcoming scheduled items. View next 8 weeks expands the list. Use Paid when an expense has actually been paid.

5. Balance on a future date

Choose any future date on Home and select Show projected balances. For each account, the app starts from its latest recorded balance and applies scheduled income, expenses and transfers after that balance date up to and including your chosen date. Results are estimates, not bank-confirmed balances.

6. Income and groups

Income is managed in Transactions alongside expenses and transfers. Use the Type filter to focus on income. Groups organise commitments and make the recurring section easier to scan.

7. Credit cards

Cards store the card limit, current balance, payment account and due date. Update the card balance when you have a newer figure.

8. Exchange rates

FX rates refresh automatically and can also be refreshed manually. Only currency codes are sent to the rate service; your balances are not sent. Rates are indicative and your bank's actual rate may differ.

9. Calendar and forecast

Calendar shows scheduled cash flow by date. Forecast uses your recorded balances and future scheduled items to estimate what may happen next.

10. Backups

Use the Data tab to export a backup regularly, especially before installing a new app version. The current app stores your financial data in this browser, so the backup file is important and should be kept somewhere private.
